Geometry Bridge Building

Grade 5  Bridge Building Challenge
Due:
Name:
Challenge: Construct a bridge that will support a 500 g mass.
Specifications:
  1. The bridge must span a 35 cm gap between two desks.
  2. The bridge must hold a 50 gram weight.
  3. The bridge must allow a small car to drive across it.
  4. The bridge must be constructed using only 30 popsicle sticks and regular white glue (not gorilla glue, construction adhesive, crazy glue, hot glue etc.).
  5. You must do some research online to decide what bridge you will be building.
  6. The bridge must use one of the following 4 models (see the 4th page)
The strongest bridge is the one that follows the requirements for the project and will hold the heaviest load before cracking, breaking or collapsing.

Additional Project Awards : These projects are not required to follow the above specifications for materials.
The littlest bridge using the fewest popsicle sticks to support 500 grams over a 70 cm span.
The most attractive bridge : decorated to the max! This would be a great way to use the home-practice bridge.
